Christina Rary is an accomplished educator, director, and community leader. Christina attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where she graduated with highest honors. Her career began with the Teach for America program in inner-city Charlotte. Her dedication to student and teacher success elevated her to leadership roles, where she was named Beginning Teacher of the Year and Campus Ambassador.
In 2018, Christina was hired by RSS as a WRHS Math teacher. At West, Christina was selected for leadership roles including school design team, project-based learning design leader, beginning teacher coach, and innovation school ambassador.
During the pandemic, Christina was invited to support Summit Virtual Academy, RSS’s first virtual school. She was awarded Teacher of the Year while leading as beginning teacher coach, grade level chair, school design team, and the RSS strategic planning team.
While teaching, she earned her Master’s as a North Carolina Principal Fellow. During her principal internship at South Rowan, she was hired as the Assistant Principal at Isenberg Elementary.
Christina was then recruited into the non-profit sector as the Executive Director of Family Crisis Council. In this role, Christina forged relationships with organizational and philanthropic leaders throughout Rowan County. Most recently, Christina was a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Rowan program and is currently the City of Salisbury Human Relations Commission Chair and a director on the board for Rotary Club of Salisbury.
Christina believes in the transformative power of community-based learning and support. Her experience in both education and non-profit sectors has positioned her to provide collaborative leadership as an agent of change alongside Rowan Literacy Council. Christina enters as the Executive Director of Rowan Literacy Council with a strong understanding that a literate community prospers. She is dedicated to improving the lives of Rowan adults, youth, and families by enhancing literacy and life skills.
Christina and her husband, Marlowe Rary, are proud residents of Salisbury, NC. This fall, her daughter Emerson joins the Dual Language Immersion program at Isenberg, and her son MJ enters the 3-year-old class in pre-K. In her spare time, you can find her reading a book, listening to a podcast, or running around Salisbury.
